VGA cables and HDMI cables have the following differences:
Interface appearance
• VGA interface: Usually a 15-pin D-type interface, shaped like a trapezoid, with three rows of pins, male and female heads are easy to distinguish, often used to connect computers, projectors, monitors and other devices.
• HDMI interface: The appearance is relatively small, there are many types, such as standard HDMI interface, Mini HDMI interface and Micro HDMI interface. Standard HDMI interfaces are commonly used in TVS, computers,
game consoles and other devices, while Mini HDMI and Micro HDMI interfaces are commonly used in some portable devices, such as cameras and tablets.
Signal transmission
• VGA cable: transmits analog signals, converts digital signals of computers or other devices into analog signals for transmission, and then converts analog signals back to digital signals at the receiving end for display.
• HDMI cable: Transmission of digital signals, can directly transmit the device's digital signal to the display device, without the need for digital-to-analog conversion, reducing signal loss and interference, can provide clearer
and more accurate image and audio signals.
Resolution support
• VGA cable: Theoretically supports up to 2048×1536 resolution, but in practical applications, 1920×1080 resolution is usually better supported, and signal quality problems may occur at higher resolutions.
HDMI cable: Support higher resolution, such as HDMI 2.0 version support 4K resolution, HDMI 2.1 version support 8K resolution, to meet the needs of high-definition display devices.
Audio transmission
• VGA cable: can only transmit video signals, if you want to transmit audio, you need to connect an additional audio cable.
• HDMI cable: not only can transmit video signals, but also can transmit multi-channel audio signals at the same time, which can achieve synchronous transmission of audio and video, simplifying the device connection.
Application scenario
VGA cable: It is often used in scenes where the picture quality is not very high and the device only needs video output, such as old computers connected to projectors, monitors, etc.
• HDMI cable: widely used in home theater, HDTV, computers, game consoles, Blu-ray players and other devices between the connection, can provide high-quality audio and video transmission, to meet the user's needs for
high-definition picture quality and multi-channel audio.
